server-track-lab vs Segment vs RudderStack for B2B conversion forwarding
By Canada Site Ops · Prices and destination docs checked Oct 20, 2026 on each vendor's official pages · Sources linked inline
If you run a small B2B SaaS and want your signups, demo requests and paid subscriptions to reach Meta, Google Ads and LinkedIn from your server, three kinds of tool come up: a full customer data platform like Twilio Segment, a warehouse-first CDP like RudderStack, or a single-purpose conversion API like server-track-lab. They overlap on one narrow job (forwarding conversions server-side) and differ on almost everything else. This page compares them on that narrow job, says plainly where each one is the better choice, and is honest about what server-track-lab does not do yet.
Segment, Twilio and RudderStack are trademarks of their respective owners. server-track-lab is an independent product by Canada Site Ops and is not affiliated with or endorsed by either company. Facts below come from their public pages on Oct 20, 2026; plans change, so check them yourself before deciding.
Comparison (checked Oct 20, 2026)
| Segment (Connections) | RudderStack | server-track-lab | |
|---|---|---|---|
| What it is | Customer data pipeline: collect first-party data and route it to 550+ pre-built destinations, warehouses and reverse ETL[1]. A Customer Data Platform tier adds identity-resolved profiles, audiences and journeys[2] | Warehouse-first customer data infrastructure with 200+ cloud destinations, warehouse destinations and reverse ETL; self-hosted open-source option under Elastic 2.0[6] | One HTTPS endpoint that normalizes, hashes and dedupes conversion events and forwards them to ad platforms |
| Pricing unit | Monthly tracked users (MTUs): unique identified or anonymous users you collect data on each month[1] | Events: every page, track or other call counts, including collected and activated events[6][7] | Billed conversion events you send to the API |
| Free tier | Free: 1,000 visitors (MTUs)/mo, 2 sources, 1 warehouse destination[1] | Free forever: 250K events/mo; processing stops after a second consecutive month over the limit[6][7] | First 1,000 billed events free each billing month |
| Paid entry point | Team: starts at $120/mo including 10,000 MTUs, 14-day free trial, credit card. Extra 1,000 MTUs listed at +$12 (10K–25K), +$11 (25K–100K), +$10 (100K+)[1] | Growth: $265/mo for 1M events ($225/mo billed annually); overage charged per million at the tier's rate (for example 1.5M events on the 1M tier = $397.50). Business-email signups get a 30-day Growth trial capped at 25M events[7] | CA$2 per 1,000 billed events after the free 1,000. Self-serve, no minimum |
| Top tier | Business and the Customer Data Platform: custom pricing, contact sales, invoiced[1][2] | Enterprise: custom, contact sales (also for steady volume above 25M events/mo)[6][7] | None |
| Meta Conversions API | Yes: Facebook Conversions API (Actions) destination with prebuilt Purchase and other mappings, normalization and SHA-256 hashing, test event code; max 5 mappings per destination instance[3] | Yes: Facebook Conversions destination, cloud mode[8] | Live, using your own pixel and access token |
| Google Ads | Yes: Google Ads Conversions destination (click, call and adjustment uploads via the Google Ads API). Enhanced conversions for web need the original conversion recorded by gtag with an order ID; enhanced conversions for leads use Upload Click Conversion[4] | Yes: Google Ads Enhanced Conversions (cloud mode, sends ConversionAdjustment, orderId required, no consent field)[9] and Google Ads Offline Conversions (click, call and store sales, consent supported)[10] | Preview only: Data Manager API validate-only (Google checks the request; nothing is recorded) |

Where Segment or RudderStack fit better
Be clear about this first, because it covers a lot of teams.
- You need a full CDP. If product analytics, email tools, your CRM and your ad platforms all need the same event stream, a CDP is the right shape. Segment lists 550+ pre-built destinations[1] and RudderStack 200+ cloud destinations[6]. server-track-lab sends to ad platforms only.
- Your source of truth is the warehouse. Both load events into Snowflake, BigQuery and similar warehouses and can sync modelled data back out with reverse ETL. RudderStack's whole pitch is warehouse-first[6]. server-track-lab keeps a short event log for debugging, not a warehouse.
- You need identity resolution. Stitching anonymous and known users into one profile is Segment's Customer Data Platform[2] and RudderStack's Enterprise Profiles[6]. server-track-lab matches per event with the identifiers you send.
- You need enterprise compliance paperwork. HIPAA eligibility, regional data residency, SSO and VPC deployment sit on their higher tiers[1][6]. server-track-lab has no certifications.
- You need Google Ads and LinkedIn in production today. Both vendors document live destinations for all three platforms. server-track-lab is live only for Meta.
Where server-track-lab fits better
- You only want conversions forwarded. If the job is "when someone signs up, books a demo or pays, tell Meta," one POST per conversion is less to set up and maintain than instrumenting a CDP source, configuring a destination and building mappings.
- Your traffic is high but your conversions are few. Pricing by MTUs or by all events means page views and anonymous visitors drive the bill. A B2B site with 30,000 monthly visitors and 400 conversions is well past Segment's 1,000-MTU free tier[1], while 400 conversion events fit inside server-track-lab's free 1,000.
- You don't want a contract or a sales call. Sign up for an API key and start. There is no minimum and no seat pricing.
- You want the CAPI details handled. server-track-lab normalizes and hashes user data, keeps one event_id per conversion for Pixel deduplication, dedupes retries, and shows the exact payload it sent (or would send) for every event.
When to pick which
Pick Segment if you want a mature, broad pipeline and a path to a full CDP with profiles, audiences and journeys, and MTU pricing works for your audience size. Its Team plan is self-serve with a credit card; anything beyond that is a sales conversation[1].
Pick RudderStack if your team is data-engineering-led, lives in the warehouse, wants transformations in JavaScript or Python, or wants a self-hosted option. The free 250K events a month is generous for early-stage products, but remember every page call counts as an event[6].
Pick server-track-lab if Meta is your main paid channel, you want server-side conversions working this afternoon, and you would rather pay per conversion than per visitor. Add Segment or RudderStack later if you outgrow it; the event_id you send today keeps working with any pipeline.
Use both if you already have a CDP but don't want to pay for MTUs or events just to switch on ad destinations, or if you want a second, independent path for your most valuable conversions. Don't send the same conversion to the same platform from both.
Honest status of server-track-lab (Oct 20, 2026)
- Meta Conversions API: live, sent with your own pixel ID and access token.
- Google: Data Manager API in validate-only preview mode. Google validates the request, but no conversions are recorded yet.
- LinkedIn: dry-run. The payload is built and shown in your event log but not sent.
- Stripe webhook source: works and is covered by automated tests, but no real Stripe delivery has been proven yet.
- Pricing: the first 1,000 billed events each billing month are free; after that, CA$2 per 1,000 billed events.
A typical migration path
Most teams evaluating this already have Segment or RudderStack installed. You don't have to rip anything out. Pick one conversion (say, demo booked), send it to server-track-lab from the same backend handler that already calls your CDP, and give it an event_id that your Meta Pixel also uses. Turn off the CDP's Meta destination mapping for that event only, then compare event counts and match quality in Meta Events Manager for a week. If the numbers hold, move the next conversion. If they don't, turn the mapping back on; nothing else changed.
FAQ
Is server-track-lab a Segment or RudderStack replacement?
No. Segment and RudderStack are customer data platforms with hundreds of destinations, warehouses, reverse ETL and (on higher plans) identity resolution. server-track-lab does one job: it takes conversion events from your backend and forwards them to ad platforms. If you need a CDP, use a CDP.
Which is cheapest for a small B2B SaaS team?
It depends on what is being counted. Segment Connections prices by monthly tracked users (Free covers 1,000; Team starts at $120/month for 10,000). RudderStack prices by all events (Free covers 250K events a month; Growth starts at $265/month for 1M). server-track-lab counts only the conversion events you send: the first 1,000 each billing month are free, then CA$2 per 1,000. A team with lots of traffic but a few hundred conversions a month usually pays least with server-track-lab, while a team already paying for a CDP may pay nothing extra to switch on a destination.
Can I run server-track-lab alongside Segment or RudderStack?
Yes. Many teams keep their CDP for analytics and product data, then send only signups, demo requests and closed-won deals through server-track-lab. Use one event_id per conversion so Meta can deduplicate, and don't send the same conversion to the same platform from both tools.
Does server-track-lab send to Google Ads and LinkedIn today?
Not live yet. Meta Conversions API forwarding is live with your own pixel and access token. Google goes through the Data Manager API as a validate-only preview: the request is checked by Google but nothing is recorded. LinkedIn is a dry-run that builds the payload without sending it. Segment and RudderStack both document production destinations for all three.
Is the Stripe source production-proven?
Not yet. The Stripe webhook source verifies signatures and maps checkout, subscription and invoice events, and it is covered by automated tests, but no real Stripe delivery has been proven yet. Test it with a Stripe test-mode webhook before relying on it.
